Wooden
Toilet Seat Review
Wooden toilet seats are
made from either solid wood, or a composite with a wood
veneer finish, usually available in many shades, from a
very light pine color to a very dark oak finish. Wooden
toilet seats have been around since the inception of the
vitreous china water closet, but were around long before
that, usually as a piece of wood, with a hole in, placed
over a latrine pit, and this if you were fortunate to
have a latrine pit first.
Preferably a smaller bathroom or
water closet can be decorated in a lighter wood shade,
giving an impression of light and space in a confined
area, and matching pine color wooden toilet seats can be
found to enhance this. If a larger bathroom and a darker
color wood décor, then a matching or similar shade of
dark oak or teak can be used. Brass hinges give the
wooden toilet seat a touch of class that can’t be matched
by any other combination. If you end up choosing a
lighter wood finish, brushed nickel hinges and handles
would look great as well.
Wooden toilet seats are available
in round, oval or elongated to fit most sizes and shapes
of toilet bowl. As well as being available in a wide
range of styles, shapes and colors, many now are
available with what is known as a soft
close toilet seat and lid. A mechanism in
the hinge stops the seat and/or lid fro dropping closed
with an almighty bang that would waken even the soundest
sleeper.
A solid modern wooden toilet seat,
unlike those of yesteryear are usually guaranteed to not
split or crack, but obviously, if you leave them soaking
in a bath of water for a few weeks, then maybe that
guarantee would not stand up. Always read the small
print.
When buying wooden toilet seats,
try to check out the type of varnish or finish on them,
the manufacturer’s notes should be able to tell you. Old
wooden toilet seats were a cause of what was known as
toilet seat dermatitis, so if you have sensitive skin,
beware. Also, beware of what you clean any toilet seat
with, as you could end up with itchy butt
syndrome.
Wooden toilet
seats are not to everyone’s taste, neither
will it necessarily match the chosen décor, but that will
not stop the rise of sales rising. However, stockists of
bathroom furniture and toilets parts
are seeing an upsurge in sales of wooden toilet
seats
just as large online retailers have begun stocking up on
them in massive quantities. Once you’re on Amazon
, you’re spoilt for choice really.
