Are you outgrowing your
home, really in need of more space, but are not able to move or
upgrade to a larger property, regardless of the reason. Needing
another bathroom, or toilet, or indeed both, or perhaps want to
make space for guests or family when they are visiting over,
and only have a basement available.
Then there is a solution. If you
just want to add another bathroom, or make the basement
into a small, self contained apartment, but the water and
more importantly, the drain is about ten feet above the
basement floor, then why not consider bringing the
project to reality, and install what is known as an
up flush toilet system.
Up flush toilets are designed
to be used in basements or garages where the is no direct
access to a main sewer or a septic tank, whether because
the sewer is above floor height, or is outside the
building, with no access from inside the
property.
There are several options available
if you find yourself in this situation, but by far and
away the easiest, cleanest and trouble free option is to
opt for an up flush toilet. Fitting one of these
is not particularly easy if you have no DIY skills, but
the suggestion is to get some clear cut advice from a
specialist stockist or registered master plumber, and
while you will have to pay for fitting, better to let a
professional carry out the work, culminating in a
guarantee if anything goes wrong, i.e. leaks or
odors.
When it comes to any type of
plumbing, let the individual who is the professional
plumber take the strain, because water, gray water or
otherwise, will find a place to leak from if it is
available, as many a “Sunday plumber” has found to their
cost.
Up flush
toilet systems, pro rata, are much the same cost
as a good vitreous china standard flush toilet, and is
pretty much similar in operation, except for one thing, the
fact that the bulk goes the other way.
Each model of up flushing toilet
usually contains a discharge pipe, a tank or sump, which
is either fitted at floor level, or into a pre formed
hole in the concrete floor, and to this is attached a
small, electrically driven pump unit, which will pump the
waste “up hill” through a narrower pipe than would
normally be used, and this pipe then connects to the
sewer either upstairs or outside. A sewage ejector and a
grinder pump are installed as well. This helps make sure
the waste doesn’t clog up the drains on its way up. A
setup that breaks up the waste is also known as
macerating toilet systems.
The advantages of an upflush toilet
over a chemical or composting toilet is that it is
powered by water, fed into a tank as on an ordinary
toilet, in that the waste management operation is self
contained and enclosed, there are no buckets or
containers to empty.
Trusted online retailers like Amazon sell a number of up flush
toilet units online, most at lower prices than
anywhere else. A number of Saniflo systems are available
online like the Saniflo SFA003 Upflush Basement Toilet
Bowl and the Saniflo SFA M200
Turboflush Grinder Upflush Toilet
Pump (23% off of the sticker price.)
These units
are in fact perfectly suited for that basement
conversion job.
Basement or below ground
toilets are a really great idea that used to be a little tricky
to instigate. These days, however, there are plenty of models
available. So create extra space in your home with an
up flush toilet.
