What is a tankless toilet? A
tankless toilet is exactly what it says on the
tin. Normal toilets either come in a design of a two pie
toilet bowl and separate toilet tank for either wall
mounting or for mounting on the small shelf at the back
of the toilet bowl or they can be bought as a one piece
crafted bowl and tank in one.
The difference between the standard
water closet designs is the shape of the bowl and the
method of flush. When the flush handle is operated on a
conventional toilet, it is gravity which the force which
exchanges the water from the tank to the toilet
bowl.
A tankless toilet operates
indifferently, in as much that a pressure and volume
method is employed for the flushing action, that is to
say that when the toilet is flushed, the volume of the
water forces the waste out into the sewer system from the
toilet by “sucking” the waste out. The toilet bowl is
refilled in much the same way a tank is, and is stopped
from overflowing by an auto valve which stops the flow of
water when the bowl is refilled.
It does not have a tank of water on
standby in the conventional sense, and flushing operation
is facilitated by way of a small but very powerful
electric pump. The water for the next flushing action is
drawn directly from the water pipe as part of the main
supply in the home. Many of these flushing systems use a
dual flush mechanism that is more effective than the
traditional methods along with making more efficient use
of water.
If you indeed fit one of these
types of toilets, they are usually made of vitreous
china, and have a smaller narrower profile than that of a
conventional toilet bowl and tank combo. If you are
limited to space in the water closet, then this design is
ideal, and ass well as having a narrower profile, if
water conservation figures high on your wish list, then
this type of toilet is a winner. If you live in colder
climates, you can also choose to install a water heater
‘in series’ with your tankless
toilet pump. Additionally, you can install a
tankless hot water heater toilet system that will do the
above for you in one neat package. It makes for quite a home
improvement challenge to boot!
As with anything there are
advantages and disadvantages, and while a tankless toilet
may be suitable for one location, it may not be suitable
for others, and this is where the expert help from
specialist plumbers or stockists of tankless toilets is a
serious advantage. As well as this, there is a vast
amount of information on the web to help you make a clear
and informed choice. Besides those options, Amazon
has a lot of the popular tankless toilets
up for sale at considerable discounts off of the list price.
The Toto Neorest Elongated
Toilet and Washlet Unit
in Sedona beige is available at 48% discount while the
Kohler Purist Hatbox
Toilet
goes for 30% off the sticker price. The Toto
toilet range are particularly
impressive.
If you fit
one of these models where you currently have a
standard toilet, a little reworking of the water pipe
configuration may be needed; however this is usually
minor work.
Seek expert advice before choosing
this type of toilet to ensure it is right for you, but
once the decision is made to buy one, you will have many
trouble free years of operation with a stylish and
beautiful looking tankless
toilet.
