Potty training is probably the most
stressful period in a child’s developing years, and it isn’t an
easy ride for the parents either. If you are a parent of
children who’re already past the potty stage, you know the
difficulties that all those newbie parents out there are going
to encounter.
To ease junior along, and usually mom
is the stay at home parent, a potty chair or potty
seat as they are more commonly known, is an excellent aid.
Children, especially toddlers, have a very short attention
span, and tend not to want to do anything they do not like. The
terrible two’s is a phrase often used by parents, when junior
is throwing a wobbly with all the explosive force of Mount St.
Helens in its prime.
Attempting potty training using a
normal potty is difficult for the toddler, because the potty is
low, and not particularly comfortable. Imagine having to go low
to do the business yourself! It does seem quite unseemly. The
reason toilets are made to a specific height is not by
accident, but by design.
Potty chairs are designed with a
certain age group in mind, and are ergonomically designed for
comfort (remember the adult size toilet) so that junior will be
comfortable, and the experience will not be
distressing.
By making a game of mommy sitting on a
chair (worked for me) while junior is attempting to do the
business, whether number ones or twos, it is like a game, with
the reward being a clap or a cheer for being a very good boy or
girl.
By introducing junior to a potty
training using a potty chair as early as possible, breaking the
need for diapers can be a quick and painless task. I remember
my son going from diapers to potty chair to step stool
for the toilet in a matter of three weeks.
By using a potty
chair, the little
ones are acting like an adult when they go to the toilet,
and the step up to real toilet is quick and painless, and a
step stool can be used for climbing this particular
mountain.
Yes, there will be little accidents,
but the best way forward with what can be a difficult task, can
be very straight forward if approached in a manner that puts
the emphasis on play and growing up. Going to the toilet is a
natural part of life for everyone, but it has to be learned.
Toddlers know when they have done the business in their diaper,
and they will feel uncomfortable.
By encouraging and cajoling, and
making it a part of play will make the transition from diaper
to potty so much easier, not just for junior, but for mom
and dad as well. The Amish Furniture Bathroom
