Does your bathroom lack space? When
it comes to corner baths for small bathrooms, it is
something we have all seen or heard of, but have you ever
considered a corner toilet? If maximizing potential space
is a necessity, corner toilets are ideal, and a
popular method of space saving design, and are available
with shelf top-tank or a high tank complete with a pull
chain.
With a sleek modern design
featuring classic lines, corner toilets are a
superb choice for the smaller bathroom where space is at
a premium. Colors range from, but are not restricted to,
white, beige, stone and sand; these subtle colors will
blend in with virtually any color scheme or home décor
style. Solid colors such as black are available, but can
be on the expensive side. Installing shower trays can
also become a bit cumbersome to match with the rest of
the décor, especially when you factor in other bathroom
furnishings like towel rails and toilet seats.
Corner toilets are available as a
high tank toilet, that is, the tank sits above the
toilet, mounted on the wall, with a downpipe connecting
to the toilet bowl, and operated by a chain pull as
opposed to a handle. The high tanks are available in
various colors to match the toilet bowl; however it is
possible to buy a high tank, for corner toilets, made
from vitreous china, wood, ceramic, cast iron and
plastic. Depending on the material will dictate the cost,
with plastic being the cheapest, and cast iron or
vitreous china the more expensive. To add an interesting
twist to your bathroom you could think of buying shower
pumps, heads as well as a shower tray in the same
matching finish.
Corner toilets, complemented by a
corner bath can save as much as a third of the floor
space required for the use of non corner units. This
does, of course, depend on how small the bathroom
is.
Using corner toilets in the smaller
bathroom, coupled with a high tank, will lend your
bathroom the ambience, charm and grace of a bygone era.
In many older style properties which have not been
modernized it is quite common to find high tank toilets,
with a cast iron tank and a white vitreous china toilet
bowl.
Original pieces can be obtained
from salvage yards or specialist dealers, and carry a
premium on price. Having said that, searching around for
that little gem can be fun, and sometimes you can find
pre renovated parts, including that high tank and toilet
bowl, that will, with a little elbow grease applied, come
up like new. You will then be the proud owner of a
genuine antique pull chain toilet, and at a fraction of
the cost than if it had already been renovated, repaired
and repaired.
