Tired of your tiny bathroom? Wish you had a little something
more? Well, you don't have to buy a new house just to make your
dreams come true. A little simple remodeling will do the trick.
A few changes here and there can make your bathroom look and
feel bigger, and you'll want to stretch out and take a little
longer in that shower!
Install A New Door
Put in a pocket door. A pocket door doesn't need such a wide
arc when it opens. If you have a bathroom where you have to
scooch to the side to open the door, this is definitely not as
space-efficient as it could be. A pocket door will give you
much more room.
No More Closets
Get rid of closets. Sure, closets are wonderful. They give you
a place to put things. But bathroom closets have got to go. Put
them in the hallway and use shelves or hanging mounts for
everything.
Try Cabinets
Can't get rid of the closets? If you'd still rather have your
stuff handy, try installing cabinets. Cabinets are much more
space efficient than closets, and you can still have everything
you need close by. If it seems like too big of a job, call the
cabinet experts and they can do it for you cheaply. You need
that space to fully enjoy your new, spacious bathroom.
Done With Mirrors
Add mirrors. It may sound like a magic trick, but it's a fact:
Mirrors add space to a room. Actually, they add space to your
mind by creating the illusion of space, but it's the effect
we're going for. More mirrors give a room a more open feel. It
may not give you more real elbow room, but it will make you
feel the space. Another great idea is to install mirror
tiles.
The Right Lights
Along with mirrors, lights are an important factor in design.
For the most open feeling, go for minimal lighting and use your
mirrors to make the most of it. A giant light in the middle of
the room buzzing away is going to make you feel claustrophobic.
Try lighting strips, and make sure the lights are small. Space
them out as much as possible.
What Color Is Your Bathroom?
Colors make a huge difference. Dark colors give your bathroom a
closed, cold feeling. What you want are light colors like
white, sky blue and cream. These colors give the room an open
feel and allow for lots of light.
Keep It Clean!
Keep your bathroom organized. This will make it feel more open
and spacious. Don't let clutter build up beyond control. Keep
your stuff neatly in its place on shelves and counter tops. Try
to minimize the amount of stuff laying around on your counter
tops, and instead tuck it here and there into shelves and
cabinets. This goes for inside the shower, too, where you'll
have your shampoo and soap.
A New Shower
If you really want to do some major remodeling to save space,
install a corner shower. It doesn't have to be small and
cramped; there are lots of great showers that are space
efficient and luxurious. Check out some samples at your local
home store. For more ideas on bathroom remodeling, call the
professionals. For not too much money, they can help with your
remodeling and do some bigger jobs to make it feel newer and
bigger.
